Can I use Halocard for Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (ChatGPT)?

Yes. Halocard is supported as a payment method across Anthropic for Claude/API usage and OpenAI for ChatGPT/Codex.


From September 2025, Anthropic and OpenAI began verifying the region of your account, not just your card used at checkout.If your account isn't in a supported region (see Anthropic supported regions and OpenAI supported regions), they will block all payments before they reach your Halocard. In this case, no transaction will appear in your Halocard dashboard, not even a decline, and this indicates they're applying a restriction preventing all card payments on your account. This happens often to users located in Hong Kong for example, which is an unsupported region.Your Halocard is not the issue in this scenario. A merchant-side block happens before the payment reaches Visa, so your Halocard is never charged. It remains active, funded, and fully functional throughout and you can confirm this yourself by making a small purchase at any other Visa merchant.


How to make a successful payment at Anthropic and/or OpenAI


  1. Make sure your account is in a supported country (no credit card can override regional restrictions)
  2. Set your Halocard spending limits to be high enough to cover your plan and any API usage auto top-ups
  3. IMPORTANT: Ensure your IP address, device region and Halocard billing address all match your country (see using a custom billing address)
  4. Enter your Halocard billing address at checkout exactly as it's set, character for character.


If you followed the above steps and you still receive the "Your card was declined" message, try the following:


  1. Create a new Halocard
  2. Add it to your Apple or Google Wallet (see addiing cards to Apple / Google Pay) with your corresponding Halocard billing address
  3. Checkout using Apple Pay or Google Pay


If your payment declines yet again:


  • You will need to contact Anthropic support or OpenAI support and ask them to remove any payment restrictions on your account. Halocard is unable to troubleshoot charges that are restricted by merchants and don't appear in your Halocard dashboard. This is because the merchant isn't actually charging your card which means there's no resulting transaction on the Visa network for us to investigate.


The things Halocard cannot solve


  • Regional or account-level restrictions: If your account is registered in a region that isn't supported or you try to circumvent their terms of use, Anthropic/OpenAI may restrict all card payments on your account. Unfortunately there is no special type of credit card that can override this.
  • Merchant-side fraud rules that decline payments based on your account's behaviour, IP, or browser session data.
  • 3D Secure challenges that don't complete: Be sure to disable any popup blockers to ensure you receive any 3D-Secure verification code that is required.
