Can you guarantee Halocard will work for my purchases?
We can't guarantee acceptance at any specific merchant. No card company can, because most declines happen on the merchant's side before a transaction ever reaches the card network. What we can tell you is where Halocard generally works and how to give yourself the best chance.
Where Halocard works
Halocard is accepted wherever Visa is, which is over 175 million merchants globally for both USD and non-USD purchases. As long as the merchant isn't classified as high-risk by Visa, acceptance is typically good. For a list of high-risk merchants, see: Are there merchant category restrictions for Halocard?
Why a card might be declined
Merchants set their own account and regional-level rules that can block payments before they reach our card network. Common examples include:
- Geographic restrictions (e.g. US-only services blocking foreign profiles)
- One-card-per-account or per-deal policies
- Merchant-side fraud and risk scoring on your account profile
These are outside of our control. See the article Why was my transaction declined? for more information.
How to give yourself the best chance
- Test with a small purchase first to confirm acceptance.
- Set a custom name and billing address on your Halocard that matches what the merchant has on file for your account. You can configure these per card.
- For high-risk merchant categories, expect inconsistent results regardless of which virtual card provider you use.
