Why was my transaction declined?

A declined transaction does not always mean there is a problem with your Halocard. Most declines are caused by incorrect details or payment rules outside of Halocard's control. If one of your transactions is declined, please follow these steps.

Scenario 1: The transaction appears on your Halocard dashboard as "Declined"

When a purchase is declined, it appears in your transactions list in red with a decline reason, most commonly:

Decline Reasons

How to fix

Balance too low

Add funds to your Halocard account, or reduce the purchase amount.

Incorrect card details

Verify the card number, expiry date or CVV was entered correctly.

Address verification (AVS) failed

Verify the billing address and ZIP code you entered match the address saved on your Halocard.

Purchase not allowed at high-risk merchant

Halocards cannot be used for purchases at high-risk merchants including crypto, dating, money transfers, and others.

If a legitimate purchase continues to decline on your Halocard, click on the transaction, copy the transaction ID and contact our support team so we can help investigate this for you.

Scenario #2: The transaction DOES NOT appear on your Halocard dashboard

This means your Halocard was not charged and the purchase did not reach our card network because the merchant blocked your purchase. In these cases, merchants often state "Your card or payment method was declined", however this is usually due to account or location restrictions applied by the merchant themselves.

When a merchant blocks a purchase, it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your card. It simply means the merchant has payment rules and/or restrictions in place that are outside of Halocard's control. We often see merchants declining payments if they suspect you're in an unsupported region or your account has demonstrated suspicious activity.

The best way to resolve this is to check the merchant’s support documentation and contact the merchant directly. Halocard is unable to troubleshoot payments that don't appear on your dashboard, as we have no visibility to a merchant's rules or restrictions that the use to restrict certain payments.
