# Why is a mobile number required?

Halocard requires a valid phone number to:

1. Send SMS codes (known as "3D-Secure verification codes") to approve some online purchases. Please note these code are sent **at the request of the merchant** (not Halocard) in order to minimize fraud.
2. To recover your account in the event suspicious activity is detected and/or your account has become compromised.

Disposable and burner numbers are not recommended and are used at your own risk.
